India’s semiconductor landscape is entering a pivotal growth phase as the country accelerates efforts to build a competitive, self-reliant chip ecosystem. With global demand for semiconductors surging and supply chains strained due to geographic concentration, the need for diversified, resilient manufacturing has never been stronger. India is emerging as a promising alternative, supported by initiatives such as Electronics Systems Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) under Make in India, the Semicon India Programme, and a growing network of domestic and international partnerships that are shaping a strong foundation for the industry.

The global semiconductor market is projected to reach USD 1 trillion by 2030, and India is poised to capture a meaningful share of this value. India’s momentum is further strengthened by 10 approved semiconductor projects across six states, including its first commercial Silicon Carbide fab in Odisha and advanced packaging facilities bringing next-generation technologies to the country. Together, these investments, totalling ₹1.60 lakh crore, position India to compete alongside global leaders in the semiconductor industry.
